What Is Subluxation and How Does It Impact Kids?

kids wearing headphones during online schoolThere are three main components that can change the way we have input or output challenges within our nervous system.

One looks at the structure and alignment of the spine, so misalignment or malfunction in the way things work. It can have a component of fixation and tension, so abnormal tone, and the last piece is there needs to be a component of neurological interference or imbalance happening.

We have this complex or pattern that we call a subluxation, which starts to interfere with the way our bodies perceive & coordinate information.

These three things can happen through different types of stress. Here’s a look at each:

  • Physical: Subluxation happens when we’re exposed to physical stress, which can go back to birth trauma. Other types of physical stress include slips and falls as a kid, sports injuries, or tumbling down the stairs.
  • Chemical:  Similar to an allergic response, chemical stress can come from medications, foods, environmental toxicity, or anything our body has a stress response to in a chemical realm.
  • Emotional: We see significant subluxation patterns happen when pregnant moms experience a stressful pregnancy. That has big mental and emotional components to the pregnancy process, and then also with the birth process and stress after that.

Symptoms Kids Can Feel When Stressed

Stress can manifest in multiple ways. Kids may experience tension, stuckness and rigidity, lack of mobility, headaches, immune challenges, and gut issues. It all relates to the nervous system back out to the other systems of the body. We can relate subluxation issues to immune challenges, respiratory conditions, and mental and emotional stress. There’s a whole pattern of fight or flight stress and anxiousness.

The Role of Chiropractic

Chiropractic care focuses on this idea of subluxation. If there’s interference to the nervous system, the chiropractic adjustment helps the body remove that interference, so that it can best process and communicate information throughout the nervous system. The most important thing is to find a subluxation-based chiropractor who can analyze the subluxation. Our chiropractors do that through our INSiGHT™ scans.
