Chiropractic Care for Kids With Autism

smiling family having a movie nightA child who doesn’t make eye contact or recognize sounds. A baby who doesn’t coo, smile or have joyful playful engagement. A toddler who speaks only a few words or doesn’t speak at all. A kiddo that avoids proper neuro-emotional developmental cues with parents. These are signs of autism in kids, which can be spotted relatively quickly.

Parents should always trust their gut. Many times they will feel that something doesn’t seem right. In particular, they notice that their child isn’t developing the same way as their peers.

Attend a Workshop

If you’re wondering if your child has autism, we encourage you to attend one of our Perfect Storm workshops. At these, we delve into neurodevelopment and how the nervous system works, so you’ll be able to get an idea of whether things are normal or if stressors have been a factor in your child’s life.

Find a Pediatric Chiropractor

The next step is to find a competent pediatric chiropractor, like Dr. Jeremy, who can scan and address your child’s nervous system. He likes to start as holistic as possible.
“Let’s explore some additional services and maybe some additional testing to find out if there’s something more going on underneath that we should be looking at,” he said.

Dr. Jeremy wants parents to know that we’re not treating or curing autism, but that chiropractic can have an impact on the quality of life and neurodevelopment of those kids with autism.

The Role of Chiropractic

Chiropractic care helps bring balance to an imbalanced nervous system. “We look at kids and these neuro developmental disorders and conditions as a 2-way highway of information. You have neurological input coming into your brain, and your brain has to process it and coordinate a proper response, so you have input vs. output,” said Dr. Jeremy.

So much of our medical system works on managing the output—those behaviors, symptoms, or things that just don’t seem right. Chiropractic looks at the input and sensory processing piece of if that’s coming into your brain. Because we have the ability to scan and look at how the body actually communicates on a neurological level, we can bring more balance to that.

“I think that through chiropractic care, we may help anyone dealing with autism have a better life experience. We want to help calm the noise that is going on within their brain,” said Dr. Jeremy.
